About LD SchuhwerkMy biggest writing challenge is writing about myself but for those of you that would like to know a little more about me, here you are:
I am the youngest of four girls, so I'm used to being bossed around but wouldn't have it any other way, my sisters are amazing! Though I was born in Massachusetts, we moved to St. Louis, MO when I was quite young so I consider it my home. I live in one of the oldest parts of the city and absolutely love the diversity, architecture and urban lifestyle of my neighborhood. I have always loved to write and make artwork. I have been drawing and writing poetry since I could remember. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art from Webster University in 2004 and am currently working on a Master's Degree in Art Education. Though Breaking Into Light is my first novel, I have published several poems in college literary journals. My career has taken me to the point that I am currently teaching visual art in the city of St. Louis and writing in my free time (which isn't as often as I would like...teaching is time consuming but I love my students!) In my aspirations to become a published author and after much research, I decided to self-publish my first novel and hope that it will be a starting point for a full literary career. |
Fun FactsWhat I Love To Do On A Rainy Afternoon: Ok, I'm sure every author says this, but it's true...I love to read...a lot...a lot, a lot. When I claim to be an avid reader, I mean it in every sense of the term..I devour books. I read at least 2-3 books a week, more if it's a school break, less if it's parent teacher conference week. But the point is I love to read and believe it is important to continue this obsession with books in order to become a better writer. Though my tastes change with the wind, I really enjoy reading book series. I admire the way writers pull together three or four books into one continuous story, that takes talent! I'm not there myself yet, but maybe someday. Currently on my Kindle bookshelf, Queen of Shadows. A Throne of Glass Novel by Sarah J. Maas. If you haven't read this series, I highly recommend it.
Favorite Ice Cream: It's a toss up between Chocolate Peanut Butter and Mint Chocolate Chip Guilty Pleasure: Anytime Harry Potter is on tv, I have to watch it...doesn't matter which movie or how many times I've seen it, I will stop what I'm doing to watch it. Desert Island Food: Pizza. Any and every kind of pizza. We are lucky to have some great little pizza joints in St. Louis, my favorite the Gyro Pizza from Antonino's Taverna on The Hill...yum! Bands I Can't Get Enough Of: The Steeldrivers. This is a blue grass band that used to have Chris Stapleton (the now famous country singer who performed with JT on the CMAs) as their lead singer. The music is amazing, download it, buy it, whatever you need to do...it's worth the $!
